Me and MY parks (Film)
For this shoot, I was inspired by David LaChapelle (@david_lachapelle) and his photography recreating old paintings. I decided to recreate “Me and My Parrots” by Frida Kahlo.
This painting symbolizes many things. The parrots resting on her shoulders are said to represent freedom, vibrancy, and nature. Kahlo’s deep connection to nature is often manifested in her artwork. But what stood out to me the most when researching this piece is the metaphor for freedom represented by the parrots. Freedom for me looks like exploring the world and grounding myself in nature, specifically National Parks. I chose to represent this through my friend, Taylor, and the various elements around her that signify freedom for me (and Ms Future Park Ranger Taylor Hickman).
